It features a beautiful illuminated initial known as "Terchna Kir", an amalgamation of the words ford "bird" and "letter". As the paper slowly burns, it releases fragrances of incense, myrrh and vanilla as well as certain woody scents, an aroma that was created by the famous perfurmer Francis Kurkdjian. His aim? To re-create Armenian scents by reworking the legendary fragrance, imbuing it with a mystical presence and a hint of the Orient. Created over 120 years ago, the famous Papier d'Arménie contains detachable strips of scented brown paper. Its artisanal production is strictly based on the original methods.
The unique smell of small brown paper owes all its merits to Benzoin resin. Without this material, the Armenian Paper would not have become what it is. Auguste Ponsot discovered the disinfecting properties of this resin during a trip to Armenia. He decides to import the benefits into France. Renowned since Antiquity for its antiseptic, healing and expectorant properties, benzoin balm was formerly used, externally, to treat asthma, coughs and hoarseness.
